§ 4468-1. Rescue of domestic animals; period in which animal deemed abandoned.

  • Any person who finds and saves a domestic animal from harm, neglect, drowning or starvation shall, within a reasonable time, inform the owner, if known, or use reasonable efforts to locate the owner, if not known. In addition, if the person who finds and/or saves such a domestic animal is not able to locate the owner, that person must promptly file a report regarding the found animal with the Division. If, using reasonable efforts, the person is not able to locate the animal's owner, the animal shall be deemed to have been abandoned after a period of thirty (30) days from the date that the found report was received by the Division. Any person who takes possession of a domestic animal shall provide for the humane treatment of such animal.
